The M.Sc. Medical Technology programme is designed by experts in the respective fields, keeping in mind the current need & awareness of such innovative courses. It is a synergistic blend of academic knowledge and practical intricacies in the field to train potential technologists in performing a wide range of technological advanced procedures in medical care. These students will be in a position to take up leadership role and competently assist the medical specialists, especially in high-tech medical procedures to cater to the health care industry globally.

The M.Sc. Medical Technology, a two years full time degree programme, conducted by the SIHS, is a unique skill and competency oriented programme for budding technologists to provide in-depth knowledge in the specific modality of Medical Technology and prepare the students for leadership roles in hospitals, healthcare industry, diagnostic laboratories and research centers.

SIHS offers the M.Sc.Medical Technology programme in the following specializations:

The program includes 2 years of rigorous ‘hands-on’ development of skills and competencies in the hospital & the associated healthcare organizations. During the two years, the student will be undertaking research in the specialization of choice under the guidance of mentor.

The pedagogy includes synchronous & asynchronous mode of academic delivery, discussions, case studies and presentations, which will enhance the caliber of students and make them aware of international standards, latest developments and knowledge levels in their chosen modality of expertise. For practical “hands-on” training, the training is conducted at Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Center (SUHRC).

The student also pursue Summer Internships ,‘On-Job Training’ (OJT) with the Healthcare Industry, Hospitals - Private & Government, Healthcare organizations, Medical Equipment companies, Diagnostic centers & services & Research Institutes, providing them with a direct exposure to the Healthcare Industry for better opportunities.

Cardiac Care: Graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc. degree in Medical Technology with Cardiac Technology as specialization or equivalent from a recognized university/ Institution of National Importance. OR Bachelors in Life Sciences from a recognized University / Institution of National Importance and diploma / certificate Programme in Cardiac Technology /minimum one year of work experience in the department of Cardiology from a reputed institute / related field OR Bachelors in Medicine / Ayurveda / Homeopathy / Unani / Physiotherapy/ Nursing from a recognized University / Institution of National Importance.

Respiratory Therapy: Graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc. degree in Medical Technology with Respiratory Therapy as specialization or equivalent from a recognized university/ Institution of National Importance. OR Bachelors in Life Sciences from a recognized University / Institution of National Importance and diploma/ certificate Programme in Respiratory Therapy / Technology /minimum one year of work experience in the department of Respiratory Care from a reputed institute / related field OR Bachelors in Medicine / Ayurveda / Homeopathy / Unani / Physiotherapy / Nursing from a recognized University / Institution of National Importance.

Imaging Sciences: Graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc. degree in Medical Technology with Imaging Sciences as specialization or equivalent from a recognized university/ Institution of National Importance OR Bachelors in Physics or Life Sciences as major or equivalent from recognized university / Institution of National Importance with diploma/ certificate Programme in Imaging Sciences /minimum one year of work experience in the department of Radiology from a reputed institute / related field OR Bachelors in Medicine / Ayurveda /Homeopathy / Unani from a recognized University / Institution of National Importance.

Clinical Laboratory: Graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc. degree in Medical Technology with Clinical Laboratory Technology as specialization /Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent from a recognized university/ Institution of National Importance OR Bachelors in Life Sciences or equivalent from recognized university / Institution of National Importance with diploma / certificate Programme in Clinical Laboratory /minimum one year of work experience in the department of Clinical laboratory from a reputed institute / related field OR Bachelors in Medicine / Ayurveda / Homeopathy / Unani from a recognized University / Institution of National Importance.

Dialysis and Renal Technology : Graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc. degree in Medical Technology with Dialysis as specialization or equivalent from a recognized university/ Institution of National Importance OR Bachelors in Life Sciences or equivalent from recognized university / Institution of National Importance with diploma/ certificate Programme in Dialysis/Renal Technology / minimum one year of work experience in the department of Dialysis / Renal Sciences from a reputed institute / related field OR Bachelors in Medicine /Ayurveda / Homeopathy / Unani / Physiotherapy / Nursing from a recognized University / Institution of National Importance.

OT and Anesthesia Technology: Graduate from any statutory university with B.Sc.degree in Medical Technology with OT & / Anesthesia as specialization or equivalent from a recognized university/ Institution of National Importance OR

HOW TO APPLY

Admission Procedure for M.Sc. Medical Technology:

STEP I: Online registration to M.Sc. Medical Technology programme: Complete the online registration by filling the online registration form and making online payment of registration charges. Registration charges are Rs.1250/-
STEP II: You will be called for Entrance Exam & PI-WAT ( personal interview and written ability test)​
STEP III: Selection will be intimated to candidate through email.
STEP IV: Admission process will be completed after the verification of all the submitted documents and payment of 1st instalment of academic fees.

  • Certificate of passing the qualifying examination (Graduation, 10th & 12th Science)
  • Mark list (Graduation, 10th & 12th Science)

ASSESSMENT

The evaluation will have both internal & external components. The internal component will be continuous throughout the semester & external component will be conducted by the University at the end of the semester. A student would be required to pass in each head (internal and external) independently. Students would be assessed according to the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) system. Students would be awarded the Grade Point Average where grades would be awarded based on the class average. A student would be required to perform consistently well.

The M.Sc. Medical Technology programme will have a total of 100 credits in 2 years. Each credit is defined as 15 hours of teaching (Lecture or Lecture demonstration) or 30 hours of supervised practicals. Each credit is assessed for 50 Marks. For all external courses internal assessment will be of 60% and external assessment will be of 40%. Practicals will be 100% external. Internal courses will be evaluated 100% internally by the institute.

STANDARD OF PASSING

The assessment of the student for each examination is done, based on relative performance. Maximum Grade Point (GP) is 10 corresponding to O (Outstanding). For all courses, a student is required to pass both internal and external examination separately with a minimum Grade Point of 4 corresponding to Grade P. Students securing less than 40% absolute marks in each head of passing will be declared FAIL. The University awards a degree to the student who has achieved a minimum CGPA of 4 out of maximum of 10 CGPA for the program.

SPECIALIZATIONS

The M.Sc. Medical Technology program combines on campus classroom instructions and Lecture, Lecture demonstrations & exhaustive Practical Training in the tertiary care hospitals under the mentorship of the respective guides. Students can opt for any one of the following specializations from the first semester:

The Cardiac Care Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, haemo-dynamic monitoring, equipment set up and operation. They assist the physician during cardiac procedures and assume responsibility for completion of other cardiac lab functions.

The Respiratory Therapist is a key member of the medical team, specializing in diagnostics, treatments and procedures in the care of patients with respiratory problems. They evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders.

Imaging Sciences Technologists are health professionals who facilitate diagnosis and management through the creation of images using medical imaging modalities like X-ray, Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance and Computed Tomography.

Clinical Laboratory Technologists are responsible for laboratory based tasks, which include sampling, testing, measuring, recording & analyzing results in biological, chemical, physical & life sciences. These tests assist in the advancement & development of modern medicine & science.

Dialysis Technologists operate machines that remove waste and excess fluids from the blood of patients whose kidneys can no longer carry out those functions satisfactorily. The programme is designed to provide competencies & technical skills necessary in the field of dialysis.

The Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, equipment set up, Pre, Intra & Post operative procedures.
